Aw, it's been a while since I drew these two. The man is Leopold, and the lady is Tanya; both of them are characters that I actually created years ago, and have since evolved into deeper characters that I am working into a love story. This is just a sketchdump, mostly of Leo, testing out different facial expressions.

Bit of background on the characters: Leo is a very intelligent paleontologist whose specialty is crinoids (sea lilies). He's nearsighted, shy and a little accident-prone, but once he gets over his shyness, he can be very charming. And in case it wasn't obvious, he's also Peter Lorre. :D Or at least, looks like him. He loves Tanya, another scientist who works in his institution. She looks a lot like me, only hotter. :D She is a microscopist, is also very smart, is more nearsighted even than Leo, and though she is young and up-to-date with modern techno-gadgets, is quite happy to live in a past that she never experienced (loves old movies, music, books, radio, etc.); she is a dreamer.

I like the way this turned out--I never expected the "remove noise" option in Paint Shop would make my pencil strokes look so soft and watercolor-like, so I kept it that way. It fits the mood... I drew this listening to Jackie Gleason's "romantic instrumentals" collection. Oh, which reminds me... *goes to sketch Jackie Gleason* I've been meaning to draw The Great One for a while. :D

Awww...they're so cute. ^^

Peter Lorre's voice used to creep me out when I was young.

It still does.

Hehehe, I always loved Peter Lorre. His voice is awesome. I never really thought he was creepy, even though he played many a movie villain... but then again, I am also very strange. :D

I've got to admit, I really like the concept of these two characters. Keep drawing them ^^

Ah ha! I know these two. :)

Could this be a sign that Beth is taking these two out of the mothballs and adding a bit more to her certain "Special" story? I have the private pleasure of knowing a bit more about the background of that scenario.

I think it's the big, baleful eyes that attract you. Heh heh, I can't help it, but in that one "loving gaze" image, he looks like an amorous turtle.

Oh, and for appreciating classic 1940s instrumentals, fifty points for Ravenclaw.

And Jackie Gleason.

One o' deez days, Beth... one o' deez days... BANG! ZOOM!

...To the moon!! :D Yes, I have been working more on the special story, indeed. Mwahaa. It's going slowly, but it has been fun adding detail to the characters and scenarios.

It must be the big eyes. I do love his eyes. :D

OK, I know I commented on this forever ago. But...

Now I'm a Peter Lorre fan, and I realize that the "voice" I was actually creeped out by was the voice of the really old cartoon caricatures of him. Now I think his voice is adorable. :D

Funny how things work out, eh?

Hooray! So glad to hear that you're a fan now. ^_^ Yeah, the cartoon-parody voices they did for him were creepy, but hilarious. I still get a kick out of watching them. :D
